Security is a constant issue at Mouts TI. Because we work with global – level actions, we are always aware of the latest information and new developments in the area – after all, the data is alarming.
According to a Symantec security report, more than 44 million Brazilians have already been victims of cyberattacks. Brazil was the Latin American country most affected by cyberattacks during the third quarter of 2022, according to a report by FortiGuard Labs.
Among the most common scams and frauds are phishing attacks, in which the criminal influences the victim to enter their data on a fake page, and urgent requests via Whatsapp, in which the scammer pretends to be a relative of the victim and requests a sum of money.
Do you have questions about how to protect yourself from a virtual attack? Check out these tips from security experts at Mouts TI:
1 – Use firewalls to block unauthorized websites and services
This type of protection monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and decides to allow or block specific traffic according to the defined set of security rules.
2 – Use strong passwords and enable two-step verification
Default or temporary passwords should be changed immediately after the first login. Furthermore, it is important not to use personal data and to change them periodically.
3 – Perform penetration tests on your systems periodically
They allow the company to identify threats in advance. Tests are carried out that simulate the actions of a hacker, enabling the recognition of existing weaknesses and the application of corrective measures.
4 – Always check the address of the websites you access
Before registering or making any online payment, it is important to check whether the address you are accessing actually belongs to a trustworthy organization. Also check whether the website uses the secure protocol (HTTPS) to exchange information. The green padlock icon in the browser indicates that the website transmits data in an encrypted manner.
Dates mark the importance of being vigilant on the internet
The issue of internet security is so serious that it even has a date: Safer Internet Day , celebrated on February 7th.
The date serves as a warning for people and companies to protect themselves against the actions of criminals in the virtual environment. In 2023, the date was celebrated for the 15th time in Brazil, always marked by the sharing of security information that makes a difference in everyday life.
Another date that alludes to internet security is International Data Protection Day , celebrated on January 28. On this date, the main objective is to reinforce the importance of protecting fundamental rights of freedom and privacy related to the use of personal data.
